DJ is a big fan of the Cebeebies TV show Mr Maker and often after watching is inspired to try some of the fun crafts from the show. This weekend DJ asked (read “demanded”) that we try to make the “Springy Worm and Bird”. Luckily this project requires materials we already had in the house, so I grabbed my camera and we started making!
Step 1: Cut out 2 strips of pink paper both the same width and length.
Step 2: Using your glue stick add a dab of glue on the end of one of your strips.
Step 3: Stick the end of your other strip to it so you make a big “L” shape
Step 4: Then fold the first strip over the second one (so if you grab the strip pointing to the right, fold it over so it points to the left)
Step 6: Follwing the pattern now take the next strip and fold it over, then the other, then the other, and keep going. You don’t need to be too exact with this for it to work.
(If you need some help with this, this great youtube video will help you out. It’s really simple when you know how – my son loves it! – but it’s hard to explain with words and still pictures.)
Your Springy Worm and Bird are complete! You can use the spring technique to make lots of fun projects. DJ is fascinated by the process of making them. In fact after we made this one we made another 6 more worms and birds!
