About 6 years ago I had a customer who hired me to paint a portrait of his daughter, when I produced the final piece he was not impressed. He was unkind about my work and had clearly expected a different style than the one I work in (Honestly, if you don’t like an artists style why would you hire them?). It was a very ugly situation and I ended up refunding him all his money even though the painting had taken me weeks to complete. The incident really knocked my confidence and for a long time I could hear his nasty words in my head every time I went near a canvas.
This is the first portrait I have painted since that day, and it’s been a liberation and a catharsis to paint a portrait and truly enjoy it again. What a road it has been. You can expect to see lots more children’s portraits paintings from me, now the block has gone I just can’t keep away from the canvas.
Thanks for reading my story.
